Unmounted ArtPrint Linoleum
After a long search, we have finally found linoleum made specifically for printmaking. We like carving this linoleum much better than any other we have tried.
ArtPrint Linoleum is made in the Netherlands and it is specifically made for printmaking. It contains no PVCs, just natural materials, including linseed oil, rosin, wood flour and limestone pressed onto a jute backing (MSDS available upon request).
ArtPrint lies flat and it is very easy to carve. At the same time, it is stiff enough to hold fine detail. Carbon paper, permanent felt pens, pencil marks and ink from Inkjet Transfer Paper all show up very well on the smooth, medium gray surface.
For best results, you need sharp tools. Any of McClain's woodblock carving tools will carve linoleum easily. Keep a Leather Honing Block handy; because linoleum contains limestone, it tends to dull tools faster than wood.
The thickness of this linoleum is 3mm or just shy of 1/8 inch. To maximize the number of pieces from a sheet, reduce waste and keep prices as low as possible, we may lose up to the width of the saw blade (about 1/8") from the dimensions of a block. Exact and custom sizes can be cut for a small additional charge. Please allow two weeks for cutting and shipping custom blocks, blocks larger than 18 x 24, and large orders.
