Takach Hand Brayers - 35 Durometer Rubber (medium)
Takach Hand Brayers are the finest brayers available today.
Bushings are installed in the powder-coated, wide metal frame to insure smooth operation. The roller is a blend of natural rubber and Buna Nitrite, which has a longer life span than other materials and maintains a consistent hardness. It is wrapped on the aluminum roller core, cured, ground and polished, a superior technique to the cast surface applications found on less expensive brayers. The ends of the roller have been beveled to avoid leaving lines of ink along the edges. Should the rubber be damaged, it can be reground or even replaced if necessary.
The metal frame forms a stand for the brayer. Try holding the brayer with the handle upright, perpendicular to the printing block. The pressure from the weight of the brayer will help apply the ink with very little effort.
The 2½" diameter rollers roll out 7¾" of ink without a lap mark.
35 durometer are the most versatile rubber hardness. Most printmakers prefer 35 durometer rubber because their flexibility makes it easy to ink the block evenly. Harder 60 durometer brayers are preferred for rolling out light applications of ink, to avoid filling in fine details or to show wood grain.
